Design thinking is a structured, human-centred approach to problem-solving that emphasises empathy, creativity, and innovation. In sustainability-related contexts, it offers a practical and adaptable method for addressing complex environmental and social challenges by placing the needs and perspectives of end-users at the centre of the process.
This course is designed for trainers and facilitators who wish to apply design thinking and collaborative research in their educational or community-based work. It highlights the value of participatory methods for uncovering root causes, engaging diverse stakeholders, and co-creating solutions that are relevant, feasible, and sustainable.

This course introduces the principles and practical application of Competence-Oriented Learning and Validation (COL+V), which underpin the learning and assessment approaches used within the TRAIL project. Structured around four learning modules, it supports education and training professionals in planning and implementing competence-oriented learning activities that focus on learner-centred progression and meaningful learning outcomes across formal, non-formal, and informal contexts.
The course also addresses validation approaches, supporting practitioners in documenting, assessing, and recognising competence development. By linking learning design, facilitation, and validation processes, it strengthens the transparency and quality of learning outcomes and is particularly relevant for professionals involved in mobility learning, adult education, and continuing professional development.

This module brings together two complementary collections that support the TRAIL project’s focus on inclusive mobility learning for disadvantaged adult learners: a curated repository of Open Educational Resources (OER) and a structured database of inclusive mobility offers. Together, they provide educators, trainers, and staff from sending and hosting organisations with practical tools, examples, and opportunities to design, adapt, and implement accessible KA1 mobility actions, professional development activities, and pilot initiatives.
